Converting file attachments

n2pdf Server Task uses the external "StarOffice Server - PDF Converter" when converting file attachments. It has an interface for this converter and can use it to process a greater number of file formats "natively".

The use of the external converter is recommended if you want to process a large volume of attachments and have many different file formats. The external converter is especially preferable for obtaining a more exact conversion of the file formats. When using it, the quality of the result is practically identical to that of the original application.

Conversion using the StarOffice Server - PDF Converter is always a conversion of the entire attachment. Converted documents are always added to the created PDF document as an entire document.

Note: Please note that for the "StarOffice Server - PDF Converter" a separate license is needed.

StarOffice Server - PDF Converter is a platform-independent, server-based web service that converts over 200 file formats into the PDF format. Thanks to the integration of StarOffice, the different file formats will be converted into the PDF format without any installation or use of the original applications.

The StarOffice Server - PDF Converter can be installed and used on any J2EE-Server (e.g. Sun J2EE Application Server, Apache TomCat, etc.).  There the converter is available as a "web service" for every user in your company. Thanks to the predefined interface the converter is integrated into the n2pdf Server Task.

You can install the StarOffice Server - PDF Converter on an external computer or on the same machine on which the n2pdf Server Task is running (whether in Client or in Server Mode). The StarOffice Server - PDF Converter has its own (optional) TomCat Server, so that you can use the server directly.

The StarOffice PDF Converter is implemented as a Java web service and can be deployed on any J2EE server (e.g. Sun Application server, Apache TomCat). An installed JRE or JDK 1.5 (or higher) is required on the server, as well as a supported platform for the StarOffice Server - PDF Converter (Windows 2000/XP/2003, Linux x86 and Solaris OS SPARC Edition or x86).
